Shilts and Ruplinger both commit to Concordia-Wisconsin

A pair of Hudson Crusaders are off to the college ranks next season, giving the three-year old Minnesota Junior Hockey League franchise its 14th and 15th college commitments.

Forward Dan Shilts (New Richmond, Wis.) and defenseman Cody Ruplinger (Fon Du Lac, Wis.) are each heading to the University of Concordia-Wisconsin, where they will skate for the Falcons in the 2010-11 season.

Shilts, who Hudson acquired in an early season trade with the Twin Cities Northern Lights, played in 50 games for the Crusaders this past winter, putting up 40 points on 15 goals and 25 assists and leaving an impression with the Crusader coaching staff.

“From the second Dan walked into our locker room he was a player and a person everyone on the team could look up to.” said Hudson head coach Ted Urschel.  “Dan was one of our captains and was one of the most dependable players we had on our team.  There were games we would put him on defense to try and slow down other team’s top players and then there were times he was our best scoring forward.  He is the kind of kid who worked for everything he got and he really deserves the opportunity to play college hockey.”

Ruplinger was with the Crusaders for two seasons, playing in 48 games last season while contributing five points from the Hudson blueline.

“Rup actually came to our camp in 2007-2008 and was cut from our team,” said Urschel.  “He came into try-outs last year and looked a lot better and our coaching staff knew this kid really wanted to play college hockey.  He started out as one of our last defenseman and through the end of this year, was our best defensive D-man.  I'm really happy for Cody, because only two years ago he was playing men’s league and he really showed that if you work hard enough and put in the effort, people can accomplish their goals.”
