Three members of the 2009-10 Granite City Lumberjacks are making post-secondary plans for next season, giving Lumberjack alums four college commitments for this coming winter.
Forwards Jake Vande Lune (Monona, Wis.) and Bobby Thompson (Centerville, Minn.), along with goaltender Henrik Wood (Jar, Norway) will each skate for three separate schools in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC).
Additionally, former Granite City defenseman Brad Phenow is headed to the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association’s (NCHA) University of Wisconsin-Superior.
Phenow skated last year for the Albert Lea Thunder of the North American Hockey League, finishing the season with 13 points on 4 goals and 9 assists in 46 games.
Phenow played for Granite City club that in 2008-09 won the MnJHL regular season title and advanced into the Tier III Junior A National Tournament.
Thompson was also on that team, and he was joined in Granite City this year by both Vande Lune and Wood.
Thompson, who will be playing at St. Mary’s University, tied for 12th in the MnJHL in scoring with 51 points this past season, and including the postseason, he ended up with 25 goals and 31 assists while dressing in 51 total games.
Vande Lune was the MnJHL’s 6th highest scorer, putting together a 70 point regular season, then adding five more in the postseason to finish the year with 75 points in 46 games.
The future St. John’s University forward also finished second in the league with 43 assists.
Wood, a St. Olaf College commit, took the crease in 26 games for Granite City, going 13-7 while compiling a goals against average of 2.71 and turning away 90.4 percent of the shots he faced.
