The defending regular season and Bush Cup playoff champion Rochester Ice Hawks have announced that seven alumni have accepted offers to play at the college level.
Korby Anderson (Owatonna, Minn.), Joe Velasquez (Bloomington, Minn.), Erik Ordahl (Rochester, Minn.), Ryan Hurd (Wayzata, Minn.), Mike Lezotte (Oxford, Mich.) and Matt Rucinski (L.I.T.H., Ill.) have all committed off the 2009-10 team.
Additionally, former Ice Hawk goaltender Mike Becker (Altoona, Wis.), who played for the Minnesota Owls this past winter, is also heading off to play college hockey.
“It was another very good season and we are so proud of the group as a whole,” said Rochester head coach Nick Fatis. “Even though these guys have picked schools it took everyone in the room to get them there. Many other players have had offers and we could see four or five more move on to school if they so choose.”
Anderson will attend Division III Becker College in Leicester, Mass., while Hurd is off to the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth, both of the Eastern College Athletic Conference.
Velasquez (St. Mary’s University) and Ordahl (Augsburg College) will both be playing Division III hockey in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
Lezotte and Becker are both slated to play at Concordia University-Wisconsin of the Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association, and Rucinski is off to Iowa State University and the American Collegiate Hockey Association.
This past season, that group help lead Rochester to a Minnesota Junior Hockey League best 41-8-1 record. The Ice Hawks went on to win their sixth straight Bush cup title, before placing third in the Tier III Junior A National Tournament, which was held March 26-30 in Marlborough, Mass.
