This is our 3rd annual showcase. Please take the time to meet the coaches and members of our league administration while you're here. We will listen to your needs, suggestions and comments.
This has been a transitional year for our league. We spent all of the 2010-2011 season without a commissioner. Most of you know that the end of last season, three of our teams moved to a different league creating a major void in our league's membership. This came at a time when USA Hockey had a moratorium on junior team expansion. Then our president of twelve years stepped down.
The need to recover from these major issues caused us to redefine some of our existing leadership roles, create a new position of Director of Player and Coach Development and elect a new president. As our new president, I was able to secure permission to backfill the membership returning us to an 8-team league. We completed the hiring of a new commissioner and hired a Director of Player and Coach Development. Both guys come with many credentials and a passion for upgrading this league. Additionally, we re-wrote many of our Policies and Procedures eliminating issues by bringing clarity to administrative activities and team and league responsibilities.
Although our new 8th team (Steele County Blades, Owatonna) won't be on the ice until next season, we're functioning stronger than ever. I am very proud of the collaborative nature our members have worked to get back to where we are this year.
The MnJHL continues to move players and coaches to the next level. For example, among the Crusaders seven advancements this season is Steve Estep at NCAA D-I Colgate University. Tanner Tryggestad, Lukas Allen, Tom Debace and Josh Lehr are all at NCAA D-III programs. Additionally, the Lakers' head coach last season, Kasey Yoder, moved up to an NA Tier II team as assistant coach. Our league's mission is to continue to grow in strength as we improve our player and coaching development in preparation for their advancement.
We trust you will enjoy the level of talent we assembled for this 2-day event. The Best-Of-the-Rest (BOR) team allows us to show more of our players in this setting. With the exception of the games with the BOR team, these games are league points games, scheduled as part of our league season.
We look forward to your questions about our players and hope you enjoy your time here at the Cottage Grove Arena.
