4 MJHLers picked in NAHL draft

Four Minnesota Junior Hockey League skaters – two each from the Dubuque ThunderBirds and Minnesota Ice Hawks - were selected in yesterday’s North American League draft.

The Minnesota Blizzard selected ‘Birds forward Ryan Evenson and Ice Hawks forward James Gaulrapp, both All-MJHL Second Team selections. Evenson ended the season with 22 goals for 40 points in 38 games this past season, while Gaulrapp finished second in MJHL scoring with 22 goals for 49 points in 32 contests.

The Youngstown Phantoms grabbed league MVP Brad Weichmann. The Ice Hawks forward led the MJHL in scoring with 35 goals for 78 points in 39 games.

The T-Birds’ Reed Lally was selected by the Springfield Spirit. The forward tallied seven goals for 18 points in 26 games in 2003-04.

In addition, T-Birds defenseman Pavol Gurcik was added to the Spirit’s roster. He was scoreless in eight games with Dubuque.
